Essential Oils

At Spirit Quest Books, we carry Karooch (Alypsis), Ashbury's, Crystal Garden, and Aromas Naturales essential oils. These oils are of exceptional quality, and include some organic oils. All essential oils are antiseptic, anti-fungal and anti-viral and affect us on a psychological and physiological level..

Essential oils can be used in aromatherapy diffusers and in burners. An aromatherapy burner is a device in which you place water with three to five drops of essential oil in a bowl over a heat source. The water and oil gently evaporate, filling the air with the aroma of the oils. Two different styles of electronic diffusers are available - the "mist de light" is an ultrasonic diffuser and mist lamp. A nebulizer (no heat) is also available. We carry a wide selection of aromatherapy burners both
candle heated and electric.

We are in the Aquarian Age – everything old is new again, and essential oils are no exception, they have been around for at least 6,000 years! Essential oils can be used individually or in combination for aromatherapy, or for massage. Essential oils are highly concentrated, so it is recommended they be used with a carrier oil for massage. Lavender is one of the very few oils that can safely be applied directly to the skin, undiluted.

The best known story about essential oils and their properties is the incident when Gatefosse severely burned his hand while working in his lab. He

plunged his hand into the nearest vat of liquid which happened to be lavender essential oil. His hand healed with exceptional speed and no scarring!

We also sell Aroma Naturale's room deodorizer oils, including their fabulous "Snore No More" Marjoram oil. This unique product uses pure essential marjoram oil (in a wide mouth jar with a sponge to slow evaporation) and will diminish snoring for most people. It is also helpful for asthma, bronchitis, sinus congestion, nervous tension, stress, hypotension, headaches, flu, and colds. Rosemary is effective for migraine headaches!

To use, simply take the lid off and set the jar by the bedside when you retire. In the morning re-cap the jar so the essential oils will not evaporate during the daytime.

Our written history of essential oils dates back to around 2000 BC in Vedic, Chinese and Egyptian cultures. The Bible states the wise men brought gifts of gold, Frankincense and Myrrh to the birth of the Baby Jesus. Frankincense helps to remove afterbirth and Myrrh stops bleeding – a wonderful gift for a birthing mother! No Roman soldier went into battle without Myrrh. Nearer to our own time, during the Middle Ages when the Bubonic Plague was taking its toll, those who were not afflicted were the perfumers – they were working with essential oils!.

Pure essential oils differ from fragrance oils in that they are anti-septic, anti-viral and anti-fungal, and used appropriately will hasten healing.
