January 2012 Newsletter

Happy Chinese New Year – The year of the Water Dragon promises to be very different from 2011.  Water smoothes out the volatility of the Dragon, like a pebble becoming smooth in a river, and makes for an even more creative and harmonious Dragon.  This wonderful sign denotes strength and success and this year promises to be  good year for independent businesses./p>

The store is looking a little empty, and it’s time to re-stock.  Trade shows are on the horizon with exciting new offerings so Maggy will be in Tucson checking out the big crystals and fabulous offerings and wondering how to get it home on the plane!  (Actually, everything is sent by truck!)  While she’s away, there are some good reasons to visit the store – Fiona will likely offer some Managers Specials.

It sure looks like winter is finally here, and many of us are spending more time indoors reading and snuggling in the warmth, so we are pleased to announce we have added to our book categories - we now offer books on cooking/nutrition such as The Best of Bridge Cookbooks, Superfoods, Whitewater Cooks   and nature/animals   The Dr Dave Perrin humorous vet books  and Animal Reiki.  Not all of the stock has arrived as yet, however still worth checking!

From mid January to mid-February, in-store jewellery is on sale for 20% off (chains excluded), and selected pashmina scarves are 30% off.

Here’s something new in our newsletter for you – our ‘Essential Oil of the Month’ segment.  This month we’re giving you a little information about Lemongrass Essential Oil:

Lemongrass Essential Oil:
After the stresses and excitement of the holiday season and the prospect of more winter days ahead many folk are worn out come January, both psychologically and physically.   Lemongrass essential oil may just be the answer!

Lemongrass essential oil has a powerful lemony smell, often described as resembling lemon sherbet.  It is obtained from a wild grass and I can tell you from experience, it isn’t the easiest thing to grow if your climate zone isn’t just right.  Lemongrass prefers a temperate tropical region to grow in, so personally I’ll let those in India and Asia who grow it successfully handle that.

To assist in the recovery of physical conditions, Lemongrass essential oil is prescribed for muscle aches and pains, and is also an effective insect repellent.  For conditions such as boredom, lack of interest, overwork, nervous exhaustion, sulkiness, and even jetlag, a few drops of Lemongrass essential oil in an aromatherapy burner can assist you in getting back on track and feeling regenerated and invigorated again.

Lemongrass oil can be used blended in massage oil or diluted in the bath to assist with cellulite, digestive problems, infections, nervousness, and for over exerted ligaments.   It can also be used in lotion or cream as a skin toner, to open blocked pores and help with acne. The antiseptic properties are useful in treating athlete's foot and other fungal infections.  As with any essential oil, never apply it to the skin neat, and never ingest.  Though very few people have displayed an allergic reaction to Lemongrass essential oil, there is always a risk of sensitivity so testing a small amount in either massage oil or lotion on the inside of the arm then waiting 24 hours before using  is always highly recommended.

At Spirit Quest Books we have 10ml bottles of Lemongrass essential oil available, for $10.95.

See you soon!
