ESSENTIAL OILS

Alypsis (formerly Karooch) is the main supplier Spirit Quest Books. Oils from this Canadian company are of a good quality and muscle test the same strength as Young Living Oils at a lesser cost.

Contact us directly regarding specific oils and costs. Most oils are available in 10mL bottles; however some are available in 5mL and some in 30 mL.

We’ve fully entered the Aquarian Age where everything old is new again. Essential oils are no exception. Essential oils have been around for at least 6,000 years! They are Antiseptic Anti-Viral Anti-fungal

Our ancestors used their instinctual sense of smell to guide them in choosing foods and herbs.

Essential oils are well documented back to 3500 BC. We’ve all heard the Biblical story of the Three Wisemen bringing Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh to the Christ child. Not frivolous gifts for the child only! The Myhrr and Frankincense were most probably intended for the Virgin Mary. Frankincense helps one to persevere in difficult circumstances (it’s also good for hemaroids.) Myrrh is used to treat wounds and was carried by soldiers into battle!

More recent history includes the works of Culpepper (a herbalist) who used essential oils of peppermint and rosemary in his practice.

Gatefosse, a French chemist, coined the word "aromatherapy" in 1937. He is regarded as the father of modern aromatherapy.

The best known story about essential oils and their properties is the incident when Gatefosse severely burned his hand while working in his lab. He plunged his hand into the nearest vat of liquid – which happened to be lavender essential oil. His hand healed with exceptional speed and no scarring!

ESSENTIAL OIL COSTS

Costs vary according to the method of extraction and the availability of the raw materials (herbs /bark/ flowers/ seeds). Many oils are steam distilled, some are distilled by effleurage. We have a Canadian supplier of oils, many of which are organic.

It takes 5,000 pounds of rose petals to make one pound of essential oil! Hence Rose is a costly oil!

Essential Oils are viable for up to two years.

Ensure you buy quality – look for a dark blue or amber bottle, with a dropper insert in the bottle and no carrier oils. Oils should be kept in a cool place and away from exposure to sunlight. Stock should turn over frequently.
